Private Schools for Families Living in Southern Athens: Campus, Curriculum and Cost

Conceptual illustration of a school entrance, books, backpack and commuting bus.

This article focuses on the fees, actual campus addresses and admissions details that families should check when choosing a school while living in southern Athens. For a broader comparison of schools and curricula, see Santheos’s published school guide. This is not a school ranking and does not guarantee an admissions place.

For a family moving to southern Athens, choosing a school and choosing a home are connected decisions. The right starting point is not a league table: it is the child’s age, language needs, intended examination pathway and the daily journey from the actual address.

“Southern Athens” is a residential search area, not a single school catchment. A school serving families in Glyfada or Voula may have its campus farther inland. The examples below are a starting shortlist, not an exhaustive directory or a ranking.

St. Lawrence College: a British pathway, with a Koropi campus

St. Lawrence College describes its education as based on the National Curriculum for England, with a senior pathway leading through IGCSEs to A-Levels. Its campus address is Anemon Street, Koropi; the Varkiza address shown on the website is a postal-box address, not a substitute for the campus location. The published 2026–2027 annual tuition is €9,369 for Foundation Stage, €13,026 for Reception and Years 1–6, €14,598 for Years 7–9, and €15,204 for Year 10 through A-Level. The fee scale separately lists a €1,500 registration fee and €1,000 development fund for new pupils, plus €150 for the Cambridge Primary Programme in Years 1–6. Families should request an itemised quotation covering transport and other applicable charges. These figures are this school’s published fees, not a southern-Athens market average. 2026–2027 fee scale.

Geitonas: check the exact programme and current address

Geitonas is another school to investigate when considering the southern and southeastern residential belt. Its current contact page identifies the address as Vellas 15 and Lampron, Koropi 19441. Families may encounter older references to Vari; use the current campus details when planning a visit or measuring a commute. Geitonas current contact page.

Ask admissions to identify the programme available for the child’s precise year group, the language used in each subject and any Greek-language entry requirements. An international programme at one stage must not be interpreted as English-only teaching throughout every school year. Obtain written confirmation of places, fees and any language-support arrangements before making a housing decision.

International School of Piraeus: an early-years and primary option to investigate

International School of Piraeus presents its Primary Years Programme as an IB-authorised programme. Piraeus is a separate location from the Glyfada–Voula coastal belt, so a family should test the journey rather than assume proximity from a broad “south Athens” label. Confirm the relevant campus, teaching languages and transition arrangements for later years directly with admissions. PYP authorisation is programme-specific; it does not, on its own, establish a complete secondary-school or Diploma pathway. ISP Primary Years Programme.

CGS at The Ellinikon: a planned campus is not an available place

LAMDA Development announced on 16 May 2024 that a lease had been signed for a CGS school at The Ellinikon, with operation then expected in September 2027. This is a dated development announcement, not evidence that the campus is already open or that an individual child has a place. Obtain the latest written opening and admissions information before relying on it. Also distinguish CGS from Geitonas: they are not interchangeable school names. LAMDA’s campus announcement.

Make the decision in the right order

Shortlist programmes first, confirm admissions second, and test the home-to-campus journey third. Ask for the bus pickup point, morning departure, afternoon return, after-school transport and cancellation terms. Visit on a school day if possible; a quiet weekend drive is not a reliable commute test.

For a hypothetical family with two children in different year groups, one attractive primary programme may not solve the older child’s examination needs. Compare both children’s pathways and the combined annual budget before committing to a home.

Property purchase and school admission are separate processes. Neither buying nearby nor holding a residence permit should be presented as a guaranteed school place. A careful family relocation plan starts with written answers from the school, not an assumption attached to a property advertisement.
